LISTEN, COMPARE, UNDERSTAND

Does brown noise help with ADHD?

Listening preference and evidence of a clinical benefit are different things. You can try brown noise here as a background sound, but this player does not establish that it improves ADHD symptoms or treats ADHD.

What the research actually tested

A 2024 systematic review and meta-analysis combined 13 studies involving 335 participants with ADHD or elevated ADHD symptoms. White and pink noise showed a small benefit on laboratory task performance. The review identified no eligible brown-noise studies. Its findings therefore cannot be used as proof that brown noise helps ADHD.

The participants were children and college-age young adults, and laboratory task results do not establish lasting improvements in everyday symptoms. In comparison participants without ADHD, white and pink noise had a small negative effect on performance. Sound is not automatically helpful for everyone.

Compare brown, pink and white noise

Brown noise emphasizes lower frequencies and sounds deeper. Pink noise has less high-frequency emphasis than white noise. White noise has a brighter hiss. Use the comparison buttons above to hear each on its own; switching replaces the current selection so that the sounds do not overlap. Then customize with the individual sound cards.

Try a background for one task

Begin at a low, comfortable volume and compare with working in quiet. Use the focus timer for a session, pause if the sound is distracting or uncomfortable, and keep the combination you prefer in Favorites. This is a listening experiment, not a diagnostic test.

Is brown noise better than white or pink noise for ADHD?

The cited review does not establish that. Its evidence concerns white and pink noise, not brown noise. A preference for a deeper tone does not prove a stronger effect on attention.

Can brown noise replace ADHD treatment?

No treatment benefit is established by this player. Do not use it as a reason to stop or change prescribed care; discuss treatment decisions with a qualified clinician.

Can I set a timer?

Yes. Choose Set a timer at the top of the player, set a countdown, and start it. The audio fades out when time is up. You can also choose work sessions with breaks. Device sleep can interrupt browser playback or delay timer notifications.

Can I save and share my mix?

Use the heart in the player to save a favorite in this browser. The share button creates a link with your selected sounds and volume levels. The recipient presses Play to listen. Favorites and notes are stored locally, not synced to an account.

Do I need to download an app?

No. Use a modern browser with JavaScript and audio support. Playback starts after you interact with the player. The four colored noises are generated on your device; environmental recordings load when selected.
